There will be a special vaccination clinic on Saturday, January 30, 2010, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Columbus Department of Public Health, located at 2100 Comer Avenue. Parents of elementary school students should receive a consent form sent home with students between Friday, January 8, and Monday, January 11. Parents should return the consent forms to the child’s teacher by Thursday, January 14. Children under the age of 10 will need two doses of the vaccine spaced approximately four weeks apart. Parents who have children in different age groups are encouraged to have all their children vaccinated. Parents must accompany their children at the vaccination clinic.

The School Health Services Program is committed to providing quality service by:

  • Addressing student health needs

  • Supporting and assisting school personnel, parents and students with health and safety issues

  • Collaborating with community health service providers

Seven itinerant registered nurses provide services to students with documented needs and serve as resources to  clusters of schools in managing the special health care and medical needs that affect students’ ability to be successful in school. Their focus is on health services, health education, and safe school environment.  Three nurses serve special needs students.

School clinic workers support the schools in attending to the needs of sick and injured children. They monitor immunization records and notify parents/guardians of the need to update immunizations. All clinic workers are certified in CPR and first aid.
