School Assignment Letters
Approximately 7,000 letters will be mailed April 25 to the parents or
guardians of rising sixth-grade and ninth-grade students and of students
with new home addresses. These letters advise the parents or guardians of
their children's school assignments for the 2008-2009 school year. In
addition, those students who have been assigned to Rigdon Road Elementary
from Edgewood Elementary due to rezoning of the Rigdon Road attendance area
will receive assignment letters. Some students from Blanchard Elementary and
Waddell Elementary will be assigned to Eagle Ridge Academy, and some
students from Mathews Elementary will be assigned to Midland Academy. These
changes are the second phase of the Eagle Ridge zoning approved by the
school board in March 2007.
In most cases, if the parent or guardian does not receive an assignment
letter, the student will attend his/her present school for the 2008-2009
school year.
School assignment is based on the home address of the parent or legal
guardian. Proof of legal residency is required before a school assignment is
granted.
Students Who Have Moved
Parents of students who have moved should report to the school of
assignment or to Central Registration with proof of a current home address
(current utility bill and lease agreement or home ownership document).
Students Who are New to MCSD
Parents of students new to the Muscogee County School District should
report to the school of assignment or to Central Registration with proof of
a current home address (current utility bill and lease agreement or home
ownership document), the child’s birth certificate, certificate of
immunization, eye, ear and dental examination, report card, and student’s
social security card.
Students Who Are Leaving MCSD
The parents of students who will not be returning to the Muscogee County
School District for the 2008-2009 school year should contact their
children’s schools to complete summer withdrawal forms.
Hardship Student Transfers
The deadline to apply for a hardship student transfer for the 2008-2009
school year is May 16, 2008. No hardship transfers will be considered after
May 16, 2008. Hardship Transfer Application Forms may be requested from
school principals or at Central Registration at the Columbus Roberts Center,
539 Brown Avenue, after April 25.
Each hardship transfer request must state a compelling reason for the
requested transfer, list the child’s assigned school for the 2008-2009
school year, and list the requested school choice for the 2008-2009 school
year. The applicant must obtain the signature of the principal of the school
of assignment and return the completed request to the Central Registration
office by May 16, 2008.
Hardship transfer requests will be considered based on space available at
the requested school and the validity of the stated reason for the transfer.
Action on hardship transfer requests for the 2008-2009 school year will be
made in June, 2008, and the parents will be notified by mail of the
decision.
