March ABCD Award
“Above and Beyond
the Call of Duty”
|
Margie Grosser, secretary at St. Elmo Center for the Gifted, was honored
by the Board during the March meeting for her selection as winner of the ABCD Award.
From the Nomination Form
Margie Grosser arrives at work between 6:30 and 7:00 am to jump start her
morning and get work done before anyone enters the building. She handles all
requests for gifted testing from all schools and keeps the requests
organized and up-to-date. When the school has Saturday testing, she is there
to see that everything runs smoothly. She helps run the school when the
administrator is away and is always willing to help anyone who needs it. “If
you don’t know—ask Margie!”
She has been the gifted education secretary since its beginning in 1990,
over 17 years. She epitomizes what every good secretary should do in and out
of a school. She is responsible for contacting parents, teachers, and other
educational entities concerning the testing practices and days, handling all
office matters for St. Elmo and the gifted department, including keeping the
budget in line and ensuring that the middle and high schools are kept up to
date with gifted education matters.
Her efficiency is beyond reproach, especially during the time of the
previous director’s illness. She made sure that all procedures were handled
in an ethical and orderly way during a time of stress and uncertainty. She
ensures harmony throughout the building, taking care of the students and
teachers in a way that is comfortable and caring. Over the years, she has
acquired knowledge of gifted education and its impact in the County and the
State that is essential to the support and education of the children. She is
the finest example of the “perfect” school secretary.
