Jesse Martin
of the
Custodial Department
Wins the
November ABCD Award

“Above and Beyond
the Call of Duty”

Jesse Martin of the Custodial Department was honored by the Board during the December meeting for his selection as winner of the November ABCD Award.

From the Nomination Form

"Come to Muscogee County’s Central Office on Bradley Drive any morning beginning at 7:00 a.m., and you will find a building which, although certainly aging, is clean, well-lit and either warm or cool, as the season demands. That is because MCSD’ers who work in the Central Office are the recipients of the thorough care of Mr. Jesse Martin.

Mr. Martin not only performs every duty with expertise and attention to detail, but he cheerfully lends a hand to any employee or visitor who needs help with hauling packages upstairs (there is no elevator), loading cars with work to take home, or making emergency deliveries around the System.
Mr. Martin has ably hung pictures on the stone-hard walls, placed angels high atop Christmas trees, and aided employees with broken limbs onto the second floor which has no handicapped access. As one of only four males in the building, Mr. Martin is called upon to deal with everything from snakes which crawl into the second floor from the forest (to the accompaniment of screaming second floor citizens), to awful insects which occasionally pop out of desk drawers.

Visitors often collar Mr. Martin and ask him everything from the way to the Superintendent’s office to information about job postings. He is the mailman, the interior decorator, the guard, the wild animal tamer, traffic control, information central, FedEx, UPS, and our best and brightest friend all rolled into one. He is never upset, always cheerful, and always exhibiting the very best “can do” attitude. We would not consider our work “home on the hill” as even half as a good a place without Mr. Martin."
