Christy Kilgore, the Speech and Language Pathologist at Wynnton Academy,
is the April winner of the ABCD Award.
In addition to her duties at Wynnton, she also provides speech and language
services to preschoolers through the STEPS program. She was introduced to
the Board and presented with a certificate during the May meeting.
According to her nominator, Christy exhibits a wealth of
knowledge and skills in the area of speech and language pathology. Her
willingness to share her knowledge and assist others goes beyond the therapy
setting. She assists in the implementation of the response to intervention
in her school. She is well versed in the rules and regulations of IDEA. She
has been trained in the speech/language inclusion model through the DOE and
has worked closely with the faculty at Wynnton to implement language rich
programs in the regular education classrooms.
Christy’s ability to go above and beyond what is expected on a daily basis
is exemplified in professionalism and support of colleagues and
administrators. Her organizational skills are exceptional and her ability to
plan and meet deadlines is superior. As this school year began, her
willingness to go above and beyond was readily noted as she accepted the
need to take on an additional school’s caseload until a speech and language
pathologist could be hired and assigned to the school. She expertly met the
challenges of balancing her caseload while organizing and meeting the needs
of an additional school.
Christy assists her fellow speech and language pathologists in the
implementation of Clarity, a computer program, is an excellent resource to
her colleagues to assist and support them in understanding the applications
of this program
