The winner of the March ABCD Award is Linda Brock of Mathews Elementary
School. During the March Board meeting, she was introduced to the Board
by Don Cooper, Chief Human Resources Officer.
Linda Brock is a secretary at Mathews Elementary and has been employed by
MCSD for nine years.
She is the first face that visitors, children, and
faculty see as these individuals enter the school. She is the smile
flashed as a student brings her a flower, picture, good news of a new
baby brother or sister, or any other tidbit that a student wants to
share. Linda is the hand that graciously accepts whatever form a faculty
member needs to give her, have typed, and/or sent to a district office.
She is the individual who disseminates policy knowledge and knows what
MCSD office/personnel to contact when the staff needs answers. She is
the glue that holds Mathews’ faculty together.
She does not get flustered and does not allow the faculty to get
flustered. The phones may be ringing, the “doorbell” buzzing, a teacher
screaming that the Risograph isn’t working, and through it all, she is
the calm breeze. She is quintessentially professional, sets extremely
high standards for herself, and does not leave her desk until the job is
done. She is not satisfied with the “status quo” and is always looking
for ways to make the office run more efficiently. On the few days that
Linda is not at work, the faculty and staff walk around as though in a
stupor, unsure how to function and where to turn. This is not only due
to the work that Linda does, but also, it is truly due to the almost
palpable secure, pleasant atmosphere and tone that she single handedly
sets for the school. Mathews Elementary would be lost without Linda
Brock. She is their guardian angel.
