JOHN BROOM OF TECHNOLOGY SERVICES WINS
ABCD AWARD FOR MAY 2006 |
John Broom is the recipient of the ABCD Award for May. He is the
Supervisor of Technology and Information in the Department of Technology
Services (DOTS) and has been employed with the District approximately 12 years.
During the May Board meeting, he received a recognition plaque from Chief
Human Resources Officer Don Cooper.
According to the Chief Human Resources Officer, John has helped the
District in many ways with his programming talents. In
the past year, John has made a significant contribution to the process of recruiting employees--a
contribution that went above and beyond his job
description and responsibilities. After Human Resources asked him to explore
ways to develop an online application, he researched application
examples from other businesses and school districts and created a prototype
for applicant tracking to review. Between development meetings, he
continued to apply his programming creativity to anticipate potential issues
and needs and kept the project on track with his initiative. He did most of
this development outside of work hours. During the initial implementation
phase, since the system is up 24/7, he monitored activity and problems from
home in the evenings and on weekends. Anytime he was asked for a wording
change or other modification, he responded quickly. Overall, his cheerful
demeanor and “can-do” attitude has helped Human
Resources to manage the huge volume of employment applications
received by the District.
