Wins January ABCD Award
“Above and Beyond the Call of Duty”
|
The recipient of the January ABCD Award, Dr. Christine
Daley, School Psychologist for MCSD, was
introduced to the Board during the February meeting by Don Cooper, Chief
Human Resources Officer.
Dr. Daley has been employed with MCSD for more than eight
years. Her commitment to high standards of excellence and her dedication to
the welfare of all students in our community makes her an outstanding choice
for recognizing her efforts that go far Above and Beyond the Call. She
currently serves the department by being on the leadership team and through
her assignments to Arnold Middle School and the Rosehill/Daniel Alternative
Schools. She is highly respected by teachers, students, staff, and parents.
Dr. Daley helps coordinate the department’s involvement in the High School
Depression Screening, an annual prevention program for which she was a
co-initiator. As a result of her efforts, she was asked to serve on the
program’s national advisory board (the Sign of Suicide High School Advisory
Board) and has been instrumental in the district’s state and national
recognition for the quality of its program implementation. Based on this
work, she was co-recipient of a 2001 Innovative Practice Award presented by
the Georgia Association of School Psychologists. In addition, she has made
related professional presentations at local, state, national, and
international conferences. She further serves the district by coordinating
efforts to establish a therapeutic program for our emotional/behavior
disordered students. She has participated in the Assistant Superintendent’s
Interagency Intervention for Students committee and, throughout the years,
on a number of other committees advancing issues important to children and
the profession.
She has been an annual participant for the department’s ADHD/Health Series
for parents, as well as for the Hot Topics workshops for new teachers, and
has provided numerous other in-service trainings and educational programs
for staff and parents. She also has served as the district’s community
liaison to juvenile court, is recording secretary for the community’s
multi-disciplinary child abuse review team, is a member of the Valley
Collaborative for Suicide Prevention, and is the appointed chairperson of
the ADHD/Children’s Health Community Advisory
committee.
At the state and federal level, Dr. Daley currently serves
as Georgia’s Health Care Coordinator for the National Association of School
Psychologist and is a trained member of the Georgia Crisis Assistance Teams
for Schools. She was elected in 2002 as president-elect of the Georgia
Association of School Psychologists, served as president from 2003-2004, and
was the association’s Research Committee chairperson from 1999-2003. She
also served a three-year term as a member of the Professional Standards
Committee. She continues to work actively on important
professional issues, such as school vouchers, personnel shortages,
professional ethics, and salary incentives for national certification. In
addition, she teaches graduate courses for Troy University where she shares
her
expertise with others.
