“Above and
Beyond the Call of Duty”
Assistant Superintendent for
Human Resources, Mr. Don Cooper, recognized Pam Barton, hospital homebound
teacher, as the ABCD award winner for
April at the April Board Meeting. Jennifer Allen, Director of Student
Services, presented her with the award.
Pam Barton has been employed by MCSD since 1982
and for the past seven years has served as a hospital homebound teacher.
In cooperation with the students' teachers, she provides each student direct
instruction two to three times a week.
According to her supervisor, "Mrs. Barton always
supports the student with a friendly smile and encouragement, even when the
news is not hopeful. She has a special way of always knowing what to say.
Serving every student as an advocate, she travels throughout our county each
week going to every student’s school to return work from the previous week
and pick up new assignments. She is always willing to take the extra time
needed to update the child’s counselor, principal and/or teachers. She truly
wants her students to always be treated fairly by everyone. Her students
always profit from her keen insight into their individual strengths and
weaknesses. Her enthusiasm for teaching every subject matter encourages and
motivates her students to achieve to their highest ability. She brings
“life” to every subject through her creative and artful teaching style.
Students’ respectful attitudes and dedication for learning is reflective of
her teaching expertise and devotion to their successful achievement. Mrs.
Barton is a true professional who realizes learning must go on even when her
students become very ill. The students of MCSD who come into contact with
her through Hospital Homebound Services are truly fortunate to have a
teacher who recognizes their potential and who supports them in their
journey towards fulfilling their goals. Her kindness, loyalty, and
willingness to give so much of herself to students, parents and MCSD make
her worthy of the ABCD Award."
