2007 CRCT Scores Show Increases above State Level
Results from the 2007 Georgia Criterion-Referenced Competency Test show
progress for the district, with some scores higher than the state level in
various subject areas. (See chart for
details. Click the tabs at the bottom of the chart to see results
from different grades.)
Analysis of the Test Results in Each Subject Area
- Reading scores have increased since 2006 in grades one through seven, are higher
than the state average in grades three and eight, and are the same as the state
average in grades one and two.
- English/Language arts scores have increased since 2006 in grades one
and three through eight, are above the state in grade eight, and are the
same as the state average in grades one, two, and three.
- Math scores increased in grades three, six, and eight.
- Science scores increased in grade seven.
- Social studies scores increased in grades three, four, and six.
The annual CRCT was administered April 16-20, 2007. Grades one through
eight took tests
in reading, English/language arts, and math. In addition to the core areas,
students in grades three through eight are tested in science and social studies.
The CRCT measures how well students acquire skills and knowledge in the
Georgia Performance Standard (GPS) and the Quality Core Curriculum (QCC).
Test results offer assessment and data for academic achievement based on the
student, class, school, district, and state levels. The information is used
to determine strengths and weaknesses in reference to the instruction of the
GPS, QCC, and it is used to gauge the quality of education throughout the
state.
Some changes to the CRCT are in the works. The state is in the process of
changing the curriculum in grades one through eight in all subjects over a four-year
period (2006-2009). The CRCT will also change so the tests will reflect the
subject matter that is currently taught. The new curriculum is more rigorous
and requires students to use critical thinking skills.
