Kendrick Student
Receives
Columbus Exchange Club's ACE Award
|
Xavier Joyner from Kendrick received the Columbus Exchange Club's ACE
Award for 2007-2008. ACE. is an acronym for “Accepting the Challenge of
Excellence.” Xavier is pictured with Elaine Vann, who coordinates the
program for the Exchange Club.
This program recognizes students who have made a dramatic change in their
attitude and performance during their high school years. These changes have
enabled the students to overcome their adversities and prepare for
graduation. Examples of difficulties that have been overcome include
physical handicaps, language problems, child abuse, delinquency, or
substance abuse.
Each high school in the Muscogee County School District selects one
student to nominate for this award. From the eight high schools, one student
is selected to participate in the Georgia District competition. All
participating students receive a certificate and a $50 check. The winner
receives a plaque and a monetary award. The Georgia District winner receives
$1,500, and the National winner receives a $10,000 scholarship.
