MUSCOGEE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Website Information and Privacy Statement

GOAL

Our goal in making this website available is to help our students by providing useful information to parents, staff, and other stakeholders. Toward this end, the homepage of the website is intended for announcements and recognitions of district-wide interest.  Most pictures that appear on the homepage are taken during the monthly meetings of the Board of Education; each month the Board recognizes students and staff who have achieved recognition beyond the district. News stories of school activities and school recognitions are posted on the websites maintained by each school.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR DISTRICT AND SCHOOL WEBSITES

MCSD websites are best viewed with Internet Explorer 6 or 7 with a screen resolution of 800 x 600 or higher.  To use certain features on the websites, you must have Javascript enabled.  (If you don't see the menu in the left column on the homepage, you don't have Javascript enabled.)   You will also miss some features if you do not have current versions of Flash and a media player (such as Windows Media Player) installed on your computer.

There are many pdf files on this website. If you have a problem opening a pdf file, you probably need to update your version of Adobe Reader.  Click the button to download the latest version of this free program. (Adobe frequently updates Reader.)  On the Adobe website, be sure to select the operating system of your computer before you download.

We also post some special-purpose files in Word and Excel.

LINKS TO THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES

Links to external websites are provided as research and learning tools.  These sites are maintained by their individual hosts; the Muscogee County School District has no responsibility for the content of these sites and does not endorse ideas which may be presented there or any products or services which may be advertised there. Visitors should consult the other sites' privacy policies as we have no control over information that is submitted to, or collected by, these third parties.

ADVERTISING

We do not post advertising on this website.  If you see a pop-up or pop-under window with advertising or an advertising banner, you will know you are not on the MCSD website.  We are still in the process of moving all school and department websites to the MCSD web-hosting server, but a few are still posted on free web-hosting websites with advertising.

CHILDREN'S INTERNET PROTECTION ACT (CIPA) AND ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY (AUP)

All computers on our WAN (wide area network) are filtered according to federal guidelines under N2H2 (CIPA and COPA).  Students are required to have AUP forms signed by parents on file in their schools before they can access the Internet.  Employees accept the MCSD AUP as a part of their professional responsibility.

OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS

Documents officially published by MCSD are sometimes reproduced in whole or in part on this website as a service to our parents and staff.  The official copy and version is the one adopted by the Board of Education, and any differences which may exist on this website as a result of human error or other cause are unintentional.

WEBSITE PRIVACY POLICY STATEMENT - COLLECTION AND USE OF INFORMATION

The Muscogee County School District recognizes the privacy concerns of visitors to our website and the importance of protecting the privacy of personally identifiable information. As a general policy, no personally identifiable information, such as a visitor's name, address, email address, credit card number, or telephone number, is collected on our website unless the visitor chooses to provide that information to us.

We do not sell or share email lists or place “cookies” on a visitor’s computer.

For each visitor to our webpages, our server automatically recognizes the domain, service provider, operating system, IP address, and Internet browser.  The server also records the usage of pages (hits). This tracking system focuses on overall website activity; it does not track information about individual visitors. We use this data, in aggregate, for our research reports and performance surveys to improve the content of our website.

Safeguards are in place to prevent unauthorized attempts to upload or change website information or otherwise access our website server.
